Mucormycosis is a rare malady, but when it presents as an invasive infection, the prognosis is known to be extremely poor. The incidence of invasive opportunistic fungal infection has increased for patients who undergo chemotherapyinduced neutropenia. We experienced a case of mucormycosis that caused perforation of the stomach in a 60 year-old man during induction chemotherapy for treating acute myelocytic leukemia. On the 30th day of induction chemotherapy, he complained of pain on the whole abdomen. Under the impression of panperitonitis, emergency laparotomy was performed. On the operative fields, multiple perforated gastric ulcers covered with black necrotic material were noted. Total gastrectomy was performed. The post-operative pathologic specimen revealed the nonseptated broad hyphae, indicating the characteristic findings of murcormyceae in the ulcer debris. After 47 days of treatment with amphotericin B, he recovered completely from the fungal infection. Sadly, he died of relapse of acute myelocytic leukemia about 10 months after the diagnosis.(Korean J Med 72:S294-S297, 2007)
